Power Lines Down

P-J photo by Eric Tichy

For the consecutive weekend, a series of storms knocked out power, trees and utilities lines throughout Chautauqua County. The first storm, which rolled through the southern portion of the county, caused widespread flooding — most notably at the Chautauqua Mall and in the Celoron area. Another storm that came through about an hour later caused trees and power lines to come down. Power was reported out in the Falconer, Findley Lake and Jamestown areas. Similar damage was also reported May 26. Above, a tree fell across Fluvanna Avenue in Jamestown, and brought down power lines. At press time, power was still out in the Fluvanna Avenue area, the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities said in a press release. Also the BPU said that due to the power outage in Falconer, the water pumps at the Cassadaga station were shut off. Widespread discolored water can be expected in BPU water territory for 12-24 hours.
