Family Health Medical Services has awarded its first Family Health Medical Services Health Sciences Scholarships.

The award was created this year for high school students graduating from Chautauqua Lake Central School, Panama Central School and Maple Grove High School and is awarded to qualifying students who are enrolling in college full-time to receive a degree in public health, health science, nursing or any other health-related field. Chautauqua County, like most rural counties in this country, suffers from a significant lack of health care providers and the scholarship is aimed at addressing that need.

There is one provider for every 1,760 inhabitants of Chautauqua County, more than the national average of one per 750 citizens. Scholarship winners are Hannah Roush from Chautauqua Lake Central School and Riley Farnham from Maple Grove High School.
