Frewsburg Wins High School Bowl Championship

Frewsburg Central School won the 2018-19 High School Bowl championship, defeating Kane Area High School, 69-47.

The Frewsburg team, coached by Shaun Laska, completed the season with a perfect 6-0 record.

The championship was recorded at Jamestown Community College and broadcast on WJTN and SE-93 radio.

As a result of winning the competition, a Frewsburg senior will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship for each of two years at JCC.

The scholarship is provided by the JCC Alumni Association.

Kane Area High School administrators, faculty, and High School Bowl team members at the championship match included, in front, coach Cathy Sirianni, Carter Carlisle, Jesse Kilcoin, Sammantha Curcio, Heidi Turner, and coach Joanne Perry. In back: Kane principal James Fryzlewicz, Nick Marconi, Adam Sicher, Isaac Gollifer, Teddy Curcio, and superintendent Jeff Kepler.

This year’s championship marked Frewsburg’s first appearance in the finals in more than four decades.

Caleb Barber and Jordan Clark were named Players of the Match after the championship round.

Other members of the team include Ian Conner, Austin Anderson, Dan Sisson, Cooper Fuller, Alyssa Lobb, Joe Mihaly, Veronica Nowak, Dylan Pearson and Shannon Estus.

As runner-up, Kane will receive $500 in scholarships from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.

Representing Kane in the finals were Teddy Curcio, Sammantha Curcio, Nick Marconi, Isaac Gullifer and Adam Sicher.

The team is coached by Joanne Perry.

The match was Kane’s first appearance in the championship since joining High School Bowl in 2000.

Wendy Dyment, a faculty member at Cassadaga Valley Central School, is the moderator of High School Bowl.

Twenty-three teams from southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania schools competed in this year’s contest.
