Cassadaga Board Appoints New Mayor

CASSADAGA — In a special meeting on Friday, Cassadaga village trustees appointed Bill Astry to the position of mayor.

He will fill the position until the winner of November’s general election takes office on Dec. 2.

Trustees Cynthia Flaherty, Amanda Kalfas and Theresa Seibert voted unanimously to appoint Astry to his new role. There were no members of the public in attendance at the brief meeting.

Former Mayor Mary Jo Bauer was elected in March of 2017 and resigned from the position on May 3, amid questions regarding her residency in the village. Astry had been serving as acting mayor since her resignation.

According to Village Clerk Roxanne Astry, this year will be the first time Cassadaga will hold their elections in November, as two years ago, village officials decided to move the elections from March to the November general election.
