UPMC Chautauqua To Host Kidney Health Screening On Saturday

UPMC Chautauqua is planning a free community kidney health screening with the Kidney Foundation of WNY from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the UPMC Chautauqua Auditorium, 207 Foote Ave., Jamestown.

One in seven adults has kidney disease, according to estimates by the Centers for Disease Control. A person can lose up to 90 percent of kidney function before noticing symptoms, and many people in the early stages of kidney disease are unaware.

“Screenings like these can help people protect their kidney health,” said Barbara Breckenridge, director of patient services at the Kidney Foundation of WNY.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are the leading causes of kidney disease. Other risk factors include heart disease, obesity, lupus, a family history of kidney disease and high cholesterol.

The screening will include a blood pressure test, body mass index calculation, a blood glucose finger-prick test and a urine test. Participants will end the screening by reviewing their results with a medical professional.

To register, call 716-529-4392 or email bbreckenridge@kfwny.org.
