Memorial Day Events Planned In Area

Memorial Day honors the men and women who have died while serving in the United State Armed Forces. The holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, will be celebrated throughout Chautauqua County.

Here is a list of local events:

¯ The Der Kobblers will be hosting its annual Memorial Day Festival in the Park Cruise In, Saturday in Davis Park, West Main Street, Falconer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

¯ The seventh annual Gold Star Memorial hosted by the Blue Star Mothers, New York Chapter 4, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the park, located along West Third and Logan streets.

¯ The town of North Harmony will host a Memorial Day Service on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Veteran’s Park, located at the corner of Fardink and North Maple avenues, Ashville.

¯ The city of Jamestown will host its annual Memorial Day parade and festivities Monday. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and goes from Fourth and Washington streets to Lake View Cemetery. The ceremony ends with a service at Soldiers Circle in the cemetery.

¯ Sinclairville will host its annual parade Monday at 9 a.m. The parade lineup will be at 8:30 a.m. and will proceed from the post office.

¯ The town of Carroll will hold its Memorial Day parade at 9 a.m. Monday and service in Frewsburg.

¯ The village of Celoron and the Celoron American Legion, Herman Kent Post 777, will be holding a Memorial Day service at the Veterans Memorial in Lucille Ball Memorial Park on Monday at 9 a.m.

¯ The annual Busti Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday beginning at 9 a.m. at the site of the old New Beginnings Restaurant on Busti-Sugar Grove Road.

Music will be provided by the Southwestern Central School Band. Pastor Lee O’Brien of the Busti Federated Church and Pastor Roy Ferguson of the Church of God will preside over the ceremonies to be held at the Gazebo between the fire hall and the cemetery.

The Lakewood American Legion Post 1286 will participate in the services. The Busti Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary will host a free breakfast following the service.

¯ The Memorial Day parade in Forestville will begin at 10 a.m. The parade lineup will form at 9:30 a.m. and the parade will march down Park Street.

¯ Falconer will host its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday at 10:15 a.m. The parade will travel down West Main Street to North Work Street, and continue on to Pine Hill Cemetery. The American Legion Henry Mosher Post 638 will have their services at the cemetery followed by a prayer service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on South Dow Street at 11 a.m.

¯ Cassadaga will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday.

¯ The Fentonville United Methodist Church, 106 Old Fentonville Road, Frewsburg, will host its annual Memorial Day service on Monday at 10:30 a.m. A traditional celebration honoring fallen heroes will feature patriotic music by local talent. The guest speaker will be Pastor Mel McGinnis. The service will be followed by a parade of attendees who will march to the Fentonville Cemetery where a short ceremony will be performed by the local American Legion.

¯ Line-up for the Gerry Memorial Day parade is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gerry Fire Hall with the parade beginning at 2 p.m. The parade will proceed up Route 60 to the Gerry Cemetery where the speaker for the memorial ceremony will be Susan Rowley, president of the Blue Star Mothers.

¯ The annual town of Poland Memorial Day Parade and Observance will be held Monday beginning at noon at the Poland Town Hall, 3593 Church St., Kennedy. In the event of rain, the observance will be held at the Free Methodist Church of Kennedy.

¯ The Panama Fire Department will be holding it’s annual chicken barbecue Monday at the Panama Fire Hall from 11:30 a.m. until sold out. Chicken dinners will be include a half chicken, applesauce, macaroni salad, roll, dessert and a drink for $10. All proceeds to benefit the Panama Fire Department.
