JCC Students Placed On Phi Theta Kappa Academic Team

Jamestown Community College students Zachry Ensell, Joana Leamon and Aurora Treacy were among the State University and City University of New York placed on the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society 2019 All-New York Academic Team for Community Colleges.

The students were honored for their academic achievements, leadership, and service to their colleges and communities.

Ensell, a resident of Olean, graduated from JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus in December 2018 with an Associate in Science degree in business administration. He is enrolled in the accounting degree program at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.

While at JCC, Ensell was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and volunteered for the American Red Cross. He plans to pursue a career in either accounting or law.

Leamon, a Silver Creek resident, will graduate in December 2019 with an Associate in Science degree in communication. She also plans to complete an Associate in Science degree in individual studies in May 2020.

Leamon has served as vice president of Phi Theta Kappa and as a peer mentor and Leadership Club member. She completed an internship with JCC’s marketing department to redesign the JCC’s honors program webpage.

She won the Scholars Day competition on the Jamestown Campus this spring and plans to develop a career in video production for either broadcasting or documentaries.

Treacy graduated in December 2018 with an Associate in Science degree in communication and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the State University at Oswego. While at JCC, she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, presented research at Scholars Day in 2018, and studied abroad in Italy and Japan.

A resident of Frewsburg, Tracy plans to become a public relations specialist.

The Phi Theta Kappa academic team awards are sponsored by the New York Community College Trustees, the Association of Presidents of Public Community Colleges, and the Faculty Council of Community Colleges.
