CARTS Announces Saturday Services

As part of Chautauqua County’s goal to improve and expand CARTS service, CARTS will be providing Saturday service for city fixed routes from June 1 to Aug. 31.

Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello and Department of Public Facilities Director Brad Bentley rode the City Fixed Routes and listened to passengers express the need for expanded services.

CARTS piloted a free fixed route Friday in December and a free fixed route Saturday in February that was utilized by many people.

“During the time we spent on the CARTS buses and talking to riders, we realized there was a tremendous need for additional transportation services for our residents and visitors,” Borrello said.

“By expanding our CARTS services to be offered on Saturdays during the summer, we are better tailored to meet our residents’ needs as they can run weekend errands and reach restaurants, stores, and other area attractions.”

“Due to the overwhelming positive response to our Saturday service, it was imperative that the County find a way to provide expanded services, even if it is only for this summer,” Bentley said.

“The County will continue to look for ways to expand and improve our services even more in the future. While this expanded service does increase our costs, CARTS may be able to apply for additional grant funding to help offset the costs of providing this service, especially if we continue to see positive responses from our customers.”
