Pictured are Frewsburg Central School mock trial team members Veronica Nowak, Ian Clark, Everina Bennett, Austin Anderson, Jordan Clark, Brad Nelson and Chautauqua County Family Court Judge Michael Sullivan.

Frewsburg Central School recently was named the victor in the 2019 Chautauqua County Mock Trial competition finale held recently at the Robert H. Jackson Center.

A crowd witnessed Frewsburg High School and Jamestown High School compete for the Robert H. Jackson Cup. The Chautauqua County Mock Trial finals are part of the New York Statewide High School Mock Trial Program, a joint venture of the New York Bar Foundation, the New York State Bar Association and the Law, Youth & Citizenship Program.

Chautauqua County Family Court Judge Michael Sullivan presided over the final county competition. The fictional case before the court, Harley Davidson v. Gotham City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, involved a housing dispute. The Frewsburg team, representing the defendant, included: Veronica Nowak, Ian Clark, Everina Bennett, Austin Anderson, Jordan Clark, Brad Nelson and was coached by Thomas Nelson, Frewsburg High School history and government teacher. The Jamestown High School team, representing the plaintiff, included: Sophia Simons, Alayne Schobey, Grace McMillan, Taylor Lee, Micaela Cleveland, Ayah Qadrii and was coached by James Krause, social studies teacher.

Pete Wilson, an attorney and Chautauqua County mock trial coordinator, presented the cup to the team and acknowledged the skill, dedication and professionalism the students demonstrated during the competition.

Frewsburg will not be able to field a team to attend the regional competition in Warsaw, so the Jamestown High School team agreed to compete in their place on behalf of Chautauqua County.
