Serendipity To Hold Fall Concert At Jamestown Church On Saturday

Serendipity will host its fall concert on Saturday at Christ First United Methodist Church of Jamestown.

Serendipity will hold a fall concert on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Christ First United Methodist Church of Jamestown. The concert is free to the public, and a free-will offering will be held to benefit the Community Music Project’s Children’s Music Studio.

The group will feature some member favorites including “Shenandoah,” “Danny Boy,” “Sail Away,” and “Ubi Caritas,” while offering many new selections such as Don Macdonald’s “When the Earth Stands Still,” Dan Elder’s “Lullaby,” and Dolly Parton’s “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.”

Serendipity, has a 10-year history of concerts of many styles from many eras. In addition, they have been the featured guest artist at the Road Scholar events held at Chautauqua Institution each spring.

Unique to the concert, the ensemble will consist of the eight original members plus two additional sopranos. Earlier this year, Gail Grunstrom and Laura Hotchkiss announced that they would be moving out of state for family reasons. The women then decided to invite Marci Johnson and Mary Kay Himes to fill their positions. While Grundstrom and Hotchkiss will sing in this concert, it will sadly be their last performance with the group. This concert will also be the last for Carolyn Whitehead as she plans to retire from the group.

Local artists Marian Byard (cello) and Christopher Butler (percussion) will assist in accompaniment along with pianist, Lance Flower. Serendipity is led by Artistic Director Sue Huther and includes the following members: Cyndi Lorenc, Laura Hotchkiss, Melanie Gritters, Gail Grunstrom, Leslie Hallock, Carolyn Whitehead, and Lissa VanDewark.
