Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary To Host Annual Halloween Party

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary held its regular monthly at the Legion Post on Oct. 9 with 15 members present.

President Bev Speelberg opened the meeting in regular fashion with the Pledge of Allegiance, the Preamble and a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers. Chaplain Paula Pattison gave the opening prayer. Bev welcomed everyone, including the county president, Pat Hayward. Secretary Carol Baker read the previous meeting minutes and the treasurer’s report was given and accepted.

Correspondence was read by Secretary Baker. Post 1280 Commander Rusty Jones addressed the meeting thanking the unit for the all of help they give the post, specifically mentioning the recent four, (in two weeks time), Post 1280 Veteran funeral luncheons that they provided for the families. The Commander stated he is looking forward to working together in the coming year.

Reports by the committee chairs:

¯ Chaplain Paula reported that she has sent out many get well and sympathy cards to members’ families.

¯ Lynn Moeller reported for Children and Youth that our annual children’s Halloween party is set for Sunday. She and her committee have everything ready to go.

¯ For Community Service Sally Lawson will hold a lottery wreath raffle with proceeds to benefit the Cassadaga Food Pantry.

¯ For Constitution and By-Laws, Sally Lawson read our standing rules. Various rules were discussed and she will amend the by-laws that were voted on and changed.

¯ For Empire Girl’s State Unit 1280 is scheduled to interview eligible girls Sunday, Nov. 18; letters will be sent out to the eligible junior girls at the school.

¯ For the Juniors, Pat Hayward reported that with the donated TP and paper towel tubes, the juniors have made over 200 favors for the “Blue Star Mother’s” to send with their Christmas gifts to the Troops.

¯ Sally Lawson, our Membership chairperson announced that she now has our 2019 membership cards; dues are $25.

¯ Poppy chairperson Carol Baker said she has ordered 4,000 poppies for the 2019 season. These poppies are hand made by disabled Veterans.

Unit 1280’s annual Vendor Showcase and bake sale will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Unit 1280’s next meeting will be Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the group’s hall at 6:30 p.m. All Unit members are encouraged to attend.
