Thule Lodge Holds Summer Meeting

FALCONER — Members of the Thule Lodge No. 127 met at the end of July at the Falcons Nest in Falconer for their summer meeting. Thule Lodge is in its 111th year in the Jamestown area, and serves to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities.

Chairman Tom Eckberg welcomed all to the meeting, and chaplain Diane Shaw gave the opening invocation. Treasurer Loretta Smith read the minutes of the previous meeting and gave the financial report of the lodge. Eckberg thanked all for helping to prepare for the meeting. Refreshments were served following the meeting by Bernice Veights and historian Sipos. Vice chairman Susan W. Sipos was the recipient of the meeting award.

The Scandinavian annual festival was held recently at the Jamestown Community College. Scott Axelson gave a report of the festival. The festival he said, was successful and enjoyed by many, including the music, dancing and the food. Past chairman Edwin Sandberg told of his conversation with the grand lodge chairman at the festival, and invited him to attend one of the Thule meetings Gene Smith talked about the Swedish genealogy that he is working on at the Fenton Historical Center.

The next meeting of Thule Lodge will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23 at the Thule lodge located at 4123 Pancake Hill Road. This is one of the final gatherings to be held at the lodge. This is the annual corn and hot dog roast, and food will be prepared for all. The business meeting will follow the corn roast. Thule Lodge welcomes new members.
