Miga Named American Legion District Commander

John R. Miga was unanimously elected 2018-19 district commander of the American Legion Department of NY Eighth at the 80th district convention held at the John J. Welch Post 381 in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

John will be serving the counties of Allegany, Canada. Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genessee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming.

John is an Army veteran of the Vietnam era and has been a member of Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 for 26 years where he is an Honorary Life Member and is a dual member of Post 62 Squadron of the Sons of the Legion. He has held positions in the post as adjutant, commander, membership chairman and treasurer, and currently serves as the post’s business manager of daily operations. John is a graduate of the American Legion Extension Institute and the Department of New York American Legion College. He served as Chautauqua County Commander in 2012.

He is also a recipient of the Chautauqua County Legionnaire of the Year award and has attended the American Legion National Convention since 2004 as well as department and district conventions.

John resides in Dunkirk with his wife of 50 years, Audrey, who is a Unit 62 Auxiliary member and currently serves as auxiliary president. He is the father of two children, Brian and Melissa, and the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren.
