Catt. County Arts Association To Perform ‘Beauty And The Beast’

SALAMANCA — The Cattaraugus County Living Arts Association, along with a cast of area performers, will bring Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” to life with a stage adaptation of the 1991 film at Salamanca’s Ray Evans Seneca Theater.

“Beauty and the Beast” tells the story of a prince, transformed into a beast, who seeks to return to human form by earning the love of the girl he has captured in his castle.

Music by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, will be performed by local performers such as LeighAnn Schaffer of Portville as Belle, Randolph’s Austin Schapp as the Beast, and Randolph’s Dwaine Graham as Gaston.

“Beauty and the Beast” tells the story from the book written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and adapted by Linda Woolverton, with local performers like David Merwine of Bradford, Pa., Randolph’s Skyler and Mitchell Schapp, lendng their talents to the show. Other lead performers include: Olean’s Mike Staley, Port Allegany, Pa.’s Emily Gordon, Turtlepoint Pa.’s Olivia Bacon, Salamanca’s Kayla Kovacs, Jenna Kellogg, of Allegany, and Gabe Grey of Little Valley.

The show is being directed by Todd Wagner and choreographed by Rudi Andalora. Music director is Luke YerpeStock, and the orchestra will be conducted by Ruth Fuller. The show is produced with special arrangement with Musical Theater International.

“Beauty and the Beast” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 3, 4, 10 and 11 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 5 and 12.

Tickets can be purchased for $15 through showclix.com or at the door prior to the show at the Ray Evans Seneca Theater, 10 Main St., Salamanca.
