Nominations are being accepted through today for the 2018 Joseph H. Mason Award.

The nomination form is available by visiting www.uwayscc.org/2018-joseph-h-mason-award or by calling 483-1561.

Every year, the United Way presents the Joseph H. Mason Award to a union member or staff person whose volunteer service to the community honors the spirt of involvement exhibited by late Joseph H. Mason.

Last year, Loren Smith, member of the NYSUT’s Panama Faculty Association, was recognized as the 2017 Joseph H. Mason Award winners. He is the president of Panama Central School’s Local Union and is employed as a faculty member at Panama Central School.

Smith what Mason stood for — commitment to community while serving his union membership tirelessly. Smith serves as a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon coordinator, Southern Tier Basketball Camps director, regional state Teacher Retirement System delegate, Section 6 Boys Basketball Committee at-large member, Chautauqua County Exceptional Senior Basketball Games director, Panama modified boys’ and girls’ basketball coach and Panama cross-country coach.

United Way of Southern Chautauqua County provides funding to 26 community partners and funds 39 local programs. For information about United Way, call 483-1561, visit uwayscc.org or find the United Way of Southern Chautauqua County page on Facebook.
