Local Author Will Present New Book Thursday

SINCLAIRVILLE — Local author George Clever will present his new book, “Bright Colored Beads: Story Poems with a Native Touch” at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at the Sinclairville Free Library.

The book is Clever’s second book of poetry. He has also published several books of stories including: Lenape Animal Tales, a collection of folktale stories of the Delaware (Lenape) Indians; Bear Lake Monster and Other Clever Stories, 7 Twisted Mysteries To Die For and No Longer Needed: Robotic Short Stories. His first book of poetry, Dancing with Grandfather, was published in 2012. Additional information is available at www.cleverartandbooks.com.

Clever grew up in a small Western New York steel mill town in the 1950s. He received a bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State College and a masters degree from the State University at Buffalo, where he also did his doctoral studies. Teaching at the elementary, secondary and university levels, he also served as assistant dean of student affairs for Native American programs at Stanford University and as dean of students at Carl Sandburg College. Clever is a member of the United States Marine Corps League and served as a lieutenant colonel in the New Mexico State Guard.

Clever is a Native American, member of the Eastern Delaware Nation, a Lenape of the Unami Clan, traditional straight dancer and ceremonial elder. He is an artist and musician as well as a writer.

The Sinclairville Free Library is located at 15 Main St., Sinclairville. The program is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
