Journey To Active Aging Workshop Set For Sept. 24

The upcoming Journey to Active Aging Workshop and Luncheon is in its eighth year and continues to grow.

The event returns to the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club on Thursday, Sept. 24, with the doors opening at 8:15 a.m. for guests to visit vendor tables and view door prizes.

This year’s topic is “Your Money, Your Life: Helping you make Smart Choices.”

Guests will learn more about the importance of managing their money. Whether assets are significant or fixed, some critical tools will be highlighted to be sure guests know how to better manage funds, safe money, how to be sure insurance suits specific needs and how to access additional revenue if needed.

The planning committee is excited to continue to search out and find productive topics to have a positive impact on the community. Collaborating with agencies that each provide a unique service is the goal.

“Over the years of preparing and presenting this workshop, the outcome is an excellent relationship with those who provide services and the community they serve,” said Judi Goerke of Chautauqua Physical & Occupational Therapy. “We are so fortunate to have the most caring and talented support services for our community. The ultimate goal is to keep people in their own homes for as long as it is safe to do so. When help is needed, there is always someone able to assist. It’s what makes this area so wonderful to call home.”

This year’s classes and speakers include: Asset Protection Planning 101, 201 & 301 with Kameron Brooks; Preserving Wealth in Retirement with Chadwick Murray; The Benefits of Reverse Mortgage with Bob Wilson; Avoiding a Financial Scam with Sheriff Joseph Gerace; Watch, Clip & Save with Amie Libby; and You are Not Married to your Health Insurance with Janell Sluga. Plenty of opportunities for questions and answers will be a part of the program.

In the past, approximately 120-150 community members have attended this workshop. Lunch on Sept. 24 will be served at noon and includes a turkey sandwich, tossed salad, fruit cup, brownie, lemonade and coffee. The cost is $7. All checks should be made payable to: Journey to Active Aging Workshop and forwarded to Judi Goerke, Riverwalk Center, 15 S. Main St., Suite 220, Jamestown, NY 14701. The deadline is postmarked Friday, Sept. 18. No walk-ins will be accepted and there is a $ 30 charge for all checks with insufficient funds.

There is a scheduled time at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the workshop for attendees to visit vendors. Each vendor will have a door prize at their table. Guests are encouraged to visit each vendor to learn about services in the community and are given tickets to win the door prizes.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Judi Goerke at 488-2322 or jgoerke@chautauquapt.com.

This event strives to educate older adult community members to stay safe and remain independent in their homes for as long as possible.
