The Lotus Holistic Center has opened its doors in the 4th & Pine Professional Building in downtown Jamestown.

The center will offer courses in tai chi, reiki and barre, and offers infrared sauna therapy. The center hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony Jan. 15 to celebrate the completion of renovated space.

“We’re just glad to bring holistic (healing) to Jamestown,” said Linda Campbell, owner. “We feel like we’re in a perfect time. Jamestown is booming right now. We hope to expand a little bit too, down the road, but with our barre class, our tai chi, our reiki, and infrared saunas, I think it’s going to benefit, not just the younger people, but the elderly too, and that’s really important.”

Barre classes include a blending of elements from Pilates, yoga, functional training and dance. The moves learned in the class are choreographed to uplifting and motivational music. Barre classes can be a total body workout, allowing a greater range of motion, increased flexibility and weight loss. The classes taught at Lotus Holistic Center will be adjustable to a large range of age groups.

Tai chi is a practice often compared to yoga. It often involves steady, controlled movements and slow, deep breathing. The practice is used to improve both balance and strength.

Reiki is an alternative type of healing therapy developed by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. The process is believed to affect a person’s “life energy” and, as such, has the potential to remove an individual’s negative energy, Chronic pain and stress.

The infrared saunas are used as a form of wellness therapy. In a single 30-minute session of the therapy, an individual can burn upwards of 600 calories.

The official grand opening of the Lotus Holistic Center is set in early February.
