Plumbing runs strong for three generations of the Stone family, and spending more time with his is why Scott Stone has branched out into his own self-made business as a master plumber.

Stone Plumbing Co. is a one-man operation courtesy of Scott Stone, who learned much of the business and technical side of his craft from his grandfather, Sebastian Ciancio Jr., at Ciancio Mechanical. Stone’s been plumbing professionally since 2001 and wanted to take his skills and branch out with a new business.

He’s able to cater his work schedule to his hectic life of raising five kids and participating in their extracurriculars far better now. For both residential and commercial customers, Stone is able to work around parameters and still find time to coach several sports teams and spend time with Alivia, Isaac, Alexandra, Addison and Ava.

“It was just time,” Stone said in regard to starting his own business.

Stone found the time spent learning and working with his grandfather invaluable. Ciancio Mechanical has a long history of plumbers helping out with area needs since 1964. In the time Stone had worked there, he’s grown from a young man with a passion into someone capable of leading his own teams of plumbers on jobs with no supervision from his grandfather required.

As the New Year approaches, Stone hopes he’ll find some talented plumbers and add them to his business as he continues to take on higher-profile jobs and more of them. One of his major projects this year was renovating the plumbing of the McDonald’s restaurant at 704 Foote Ave.

On top of that, he’s already had experience taking care of gas, water, laundry and other utility needs in houses all throughout Jamestown. Since he began Stone Plumbing Co. earlier this year, he’s been able to generate a lot of business through traditional marketing, social media and word-of-mouth.

“My work speaks for itself,” Stone said. “I’m confident if you call me once, you’ll call me again.”

He said many customers remember him for his work, and glowing reviews on Facebook reflect the quality of Stone’s work. His most recent 10 years of plumbing experience have featured Stone crafting his leadership skills and honing expertise in the field of plumbing.

“I learned the business side and the trade side from my grandfather,” Stone said. “I’m going to take on way more in the future.”

Hiring a team will help with business aspirations. For now, Stone said he’s been working day-to-day while aware of multiple tasks ahead of him at most times. He noted that plumbing can be a fickle yet also flexible business; his workload might hit peak amounts at any time, but it’s also fluid enough to allow him to make his own hours while best accommodating customers.

In his free time, Stone is the president of the Frewsburg Soccer Club, head coach of the Frewsburg Varsity Girls Soccer team, coach of the Frewsburg Rookie Tackle Football team and assistant coach of the Frewsburg Varsity Girls Basketball team.

All of his children are in the soccer club and each one is also a member of at least one of the other teams Stone coaches. Isaac Stone is on the football team, and his girls play basketball as well.

Stone’s wife, Leslie Stone, also helps out with the business by handling much of the paperwork. She owns Audio Care Inc. in Jamestown and sells hearing aids and operates out of four separate offices.

“(Leslie) is a big part of the operation too,” Stone said.

Stone said it’s important to treat his customers’ homes and businesses as if he was working on his family’s home. With a family-run mentality, Stone said he’s going to treat all of his jobs with utmost care.
