Karma has a new meaning for Jamestown beauty goers.

Karma is defined as the path of destiny or fate. For 10 years a beauty salon has provided health and beauty procedures in a laid back environment.

Rachael Olson has owned and operated Karma Salon at the intersection of Hallock and Front streets since 2008. In that time she has built a strong customer base with an equally trained staff. Now in 2018, Olson is ready to return the favor to celebrate Karma’s 10th Anniversary.

Visitors to the salon can find numerous results from positive karma all over the salon. The first might be the girly skeletons that can be found all over the beauty floor. However, it is Olson who is the most positive element of the business. The idea for Karma started when Olson decided it was time to go into business for herself.

“I had worked for someone for 12 years, which is time to go off on my own and I had a really good clientele base,” Olson said.

This was especially true because she had support from the moment she opened Karma. From there she purchased the former Hairport Beauty Salon building and set up shop.

Along with the uncertainty of starting a business, the word karma also has particular meaning to Olson.

“I named it Karma because I believe whatever you put out your going to get back,” Olson exclaimed.

During the time she founded the business, setting up shop had its challenges. One of them was a vending machine that had to be removed from the building.

The nature of the word karma also extends to Olson’s clientele.

“I just believe that however you treat people that’s how their going to be treated back,” Olson said.

Today, Karma has a strong customer base that is faithful and fully supports the business’ efforts. Recently, remodelling was done to accommodate a new spacious beauty floor.

Karma offers everything from shampoos, haircuts, permanents, highlights, pedicures, manicures, waxing, extensions and coloring. The salon has six employees that Olson is proud to have work with her. She is also pleased that the business has been doing good during its tenure. To maintain their craft, Olson and her staff are also not against travelling to learn more. She cited a beauty class in New York City that the staff will be attending in the near future.

“Everything’s good, everything’s been going really well,” Olson exclaimed.

Now Olson is celebrating Karma’s milestone. To that end, Karma will host a 10th anniversary open house Saturday from 12-4 p.m. Ten gifts will be given away during the event.

As for the future, Karma will soon offer eyelash extensions. There is also the possibility to expand the business if necessary. Olson owns the house next door to the salon on Hallock Street.

“I can see myself staying for quite a long time and just expanding,” Olson said.

Olson is also proud to own a small business as she now has time to spend with her family.

“Its nice having my own business because I have two little kids so I can always leave if I need to and rearrange my schedule around picking up kids from school, etc.” Olson said.
