Group To Kayak On Findley Lake

Members of the Allegheny Outdoor Club will kayak/canoe Sunday on Findley Lake. The group will meet at the boat launch in Findley Lake at 2 p.m. Earl Ross will be the contact for any questions. He can be reached at 814-726-3920 or 814-706-1198.

Bible School Kicks Off Monday

SOUTH DAYTON — The South Dayton Free Methodist Church will be holding vacation bible school beginning Monday and held for three consecutive evenings. Activities will begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 7:30 p.m. and take place at the church, 322 Pine St., South Dayton. This year’s theme is “Bible Heroes,” and children from 4 years old to sixth grade are welcome to attend and take part in the music, fun, goodies and games.

Food Policy Council Meets Aug. 24

CASSADAGA — The Chautauqua County Food Policy Council will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the Park United Methodist Church, 25 Maple Ave., Cassadaga. The meeting is open to the public. Native Plant Sale Planned

On Saturday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Chautauqua Marina and the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will co-host a native plant sale with proceeds benefitting the conservancy and Chautauqua Lake. A variety of native plants will be available for purchase from local vendors including Amanda’s Garden, Royal Fern Nursery, Turnbull Nursery and Hickory Hurst Farm. Carol Markham, Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy conservationist, will be on hand to answer questions about native plant selection and native garden design. Admission is free, and no reservations are needed. The event will be held rain or shine at Chautauqua Marina, 104 West Lake Road, Mayville. Guided educational lakeside buffer walks will also be offered, weather permitting.

Auxiliary Unit Meeting Recap Upcoming Events

CASSADAGA — Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 met recently and held its annual summer dish-to-share picnic get together. The Legion Auxiliary Dept. of New York President’s project this year is Honor Flights for Veterans with a goal to get many veterans on these trips to Washington, D.C., during the coming year. There was a reminder on the upcoming Son’s of the Legion last Cruise Night of the year, Tuesday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. During the event auxiliary members hold sell pie and other items for dessert. The Legion, Auxiliary and Sons are holding a chicken barbecue starting at 2 p.m. Sunday Sept. 4. An October Fest and Veterans Day program is also being discussed. The auxiliary meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280. All members are encouraged to attend.
