Jamestown School Board

To Meet

A Regular Meeting of the Jamestown City School District Board of Education will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16, in the Board Room of the Administration Building at 197 Martin Road, Jamestown.

Fenton History Center’s Brown Bag Lunch

Aug. 19

On Wednesday, Aug. 19 at noon, Wendy Straight, Mapping Assistant, Chautauqua County 19th Century Sites, will be speaking on Mapping Jamestown Sites of the 1880s. This event is free and will be in-person in the dining room at the Fenton History Center and streamed via Facebook and Zoom.

Borrello Shares Property Owner Rebate Lookup Tool

Those who haven’t received a tax rebate check as expected by the end of July can check for one on a state website. “Despite the governor’s goal to deliver these checks by the end of July, it did not occur and the actual deadline is October 15,” said Sen. George Borrello. Eligible homeowners are those who receive STAR, or Enhanced STAR, and who make less than $250,000. The benefit is a percentage of a property owner’s STAR. To check eligibility for the rebate, visit www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/htrc/lookup.htm.

County IDA Meets Aug. 23

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the BWB building, second floor board room, 201 W. Third St., Jamestown, and the Fredonia Technology Incubator, second floor conference room, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Both locations will be open to the public. The meeting will also be streamed live on YouTube and Zoom.

Kiantone Fire

Dept. Celebrating 75th Anniversary

KIANTONE — The Kiantone Independent Fire Department will celebrate it’s 75th anniversary with a community open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Community members and those of neighboring towns are invited to tour the department’s apparatus, learn about fire safety, take a step back in the department’s history with historical displays and meet and talk with department members. There will be light refreshments available. The department was formed in the spring and summer of 1947 with 12 original members and one used fire truck. The department is located on Route 60 between Jamestown and Frewsburg.

Memberships Available For Purchase

LITTLE VALLEY — The Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society is selling memberships for 2023 through Oct. 1. Memberships provide free gate entrance to the 2023 Cattaraugus County Fair, free parking behind the grandstand and a vote at the annual meeting in November. Memberships are $35 and can be purchased by calling the fair office at 716-938-9146 or by mail at P.O. Box 182, Little Valley, NY 14755.
