Blood Drives Set Locally

Community Blood Bank will be hosting the following blood drives: the Chautauqua County building, 3 N. Main St., Mayville, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10; at Rand Machine Products, 2072 Allen St. Ext., Falconer, from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11; and at Westfield Memorial Hospital, 189 E. Main St., Westfield, from noon-4 p.m. Friday Aug. 12.

Church To Offer Take-Out Meals

The Cherry Creek United Methodist Church, 6813 Main St., Cherry Creek, will have summer take-out dinners available from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The meal for a free will donation will include ham, beans, macaroni and potato salad, roll and cookies for dessert. Pre-orders can be made by calling 716-338-8429 or can be ordered in person at the event.

Book Signing Takes Place On Aug. 20

LAKEWOOD — The Good Neighbor Bookstore, 124 Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood, will host a play book and music signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. The play and song book, entitled “Creation’ — Big Bang/Or Was It A Whisper?” was written and composed by Jody I. Booth Terhune. The two items will be available as a set or separately. The author, a resident of Jamestown, has lived in both Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties and attended Jamestown Public Schools, Bryant & Stratton Business Institute, Jamestown Community College and St. Bonaventure University. She is a certified laity speaker of the United Methodist Church.

School Supply Giveaway Set For Aug. 27

The Los Contrincantes Car Club and Bike Crew will host its Back 2 School yearly giveaway at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Lillian Dickson Park on the corner of Falconer and Bowen streets in Jamestown. Last year the groups donated 350 backpacks full of school supplies. Kids must be present to receive back to school supplies while supplies last.

Leon Fire District Inspection and Community

Picnic

LEON — The Leon Fire Commissioners will hold their annual fire district inspection and community picnic on Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Leon Fire Hall, beginning at noon. Food will be served at 1 p.m. The event is open to all Leon Fire District residents and is sponsored by the Leon Fire Commissioners in conjunction with the Leon Fire Department, the auxiliary, the Leon Historical Society and the Leon Town Board. Fire equipment will be displayed for residents to view, and department members will be available to answer any questions.  District residents are encouraged to meet or reconnect with their neighbors by attending. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass. Meat, non-alcoholic beverages and table service will be provided.  There will be Penny Royal displays, Leon Historical Society displays, activities for children, music, gift/basket giveaways and 50/50 giveaways.
