2 New COVID-19 Cases In County

Two new COVID-19 cases involving men in their 20s were announced Thursday by the Chautauqua County Health Department. The department said 19 cases are active and 325 cases are under quarantine and isolation orders. In addition, 779 persons under domestic traveler quarantine for having arrived to Chautauqua County from a state listed on the New York state travel advisory. One person remains hospitalized, and there have been 190 recovered cases, eight deaths, 217 total cases with 20,798 negative test results.

Der Kobblers Show Canceled

The Der Kobblers said its annual Labor Day car show at Midway State Park has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The club said it thanks Midway State Park, its loyal sponsors, participants and spectators for all their past support. “Stay safe, wear a mask and practice social distancing. See you Labor Day 2021,” the organization said.

Harper To Give Lecture Today

CHAUTAUQUA — Chautauqua Institution’s fourth week of Interfaith Lectures focuses on “Ethics in a Technologically Transforming World?” which will examine the ethical, spiritual and religious dimensions of “new tech” at 2 p.m. each day. Chautauqua continues its Interfaith Fridays series, this week featuring Lisa Sharon Harper, representing progressive Christianity. Harper is the founder and president of Freedom Road, a groundbreaking consulting group that crafts experiences that bring common understanding and common commitments that lead to common action toward a more just world. Sandel To Speak At Chautauqua

Chautauqua Institution’s nine-week season features weekday lectures focusing on weekly cultural themes. Week Four examines “The Ethics of Tech: Scientific, Corporate and Personal Responsibility,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the tremendous and sometimes harmful impact Big Tech companies and their products have on society. Michael J. Sandel, Harvard political philosopher and bestselling author, returns to the Chautauqua to close the inquiry into “The Ethics of Tech” with a Socratic discussion on what audiences have learned throughout the week, drawing on his Harvard course “Tech Ethics: AI, Biotech, and the Future of Human Nature.”

County Bridge To Close Monday

White Hill Road in the town of French Creek, over county bridge 1048, will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday. The closure is for replacement of the bridge. A detour will be posted.

Ethics Board To Meet Monday

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Ethics Board will meet Monday, July 27, at 4 p.m. in Room 331 of the Gerace Office Building, 3 N. Erie St. in Mayville. Current members of the board are Susan Dilks, John Lloyd, David Rowe, Rose Sebouhian and Mary Kay Szwejbka. Those attending the meeting must wear a face covering, adhere to social distancing measures and will be screened for the symptoms of COVID-19 prior to entering the building.
