Kerger To Talk About Storytelling

Chautauqua Institution’s third week of lectures examines “Art and Democracy,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the role of art and artists in an active democracy — how they’re able to raise the social consciousness, challenge the status quo and engage communities large and small toward meaningful action. Today, Paula A. Kerger discusses “PBS American Portrait,” a storytelling project highlighting who we are as Americans. Kerger is president and chief executive officer of PBS, the nation’s largest non-commercial media organization, with more than 330-member stations throughout the country. Assembly online began with a beta test version launched on June 22, with the testing phase continuing through August 31, allowing guests to sign up for a 90-day free trial at chq.org/2020-assembly. Following the 90-day trial period, membership will be $3.99 per month.

Historical Society Cancels Fair

SINCLAIRVILLE –Another event has been canceled due to the coronavirus. In a news release, the Valley Historical Society announced the decision. “After serious consideration, the Sinclairville History Fair committee has decided to cancel the Sinclairville History Fair for 2020. We just could not determine a way to hold the fair and stay within the guidelines set up by NYS for social distancing, said society president, Larry Barmore. “As disappointing as this decision is, it was made with the concern for the safety of our residents. We will plan a bigger and better History Fair for Sept. 11, 2021.”
