JPS Board Will Meet Today

A special meeting of the Jamestown City School District will take place today at 6 p.m. via Zoom. Board participants will be meeting via teleconference. The meeting will be live streamed, recorded and posted on the district’s website. To view the live stream, visit jpsny.org/BOELive.

Nursing Programs To Begin In Aug.

E2CCB will offer in-person practical nursing programs beginning in August at the Hewes Educational Center in Ashville and Health Career Academy & Training Center in Fredonia. Classes will follow all CDC guidelines to ensure student and staff safety. Email dbrink@e2ccb.org or call 805-3162 for more information or to register for an online ACCUPLACER exam. Exams end July 17.

Walker To Speak At Chautauqua

Chautauqua Institution’s third week of lectures examines “Art and Democracy,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the role of art and artists in an active democracy — how they’re able to raise the social consciousness, challenge the status quo and engage communities large and small toward meaningful action. Today, Darren Walker examines how transformational philanthropy strengthens the intersection of arts and social justice. Walker is president of the Ford Foundation, an international social justice philanthropy with a $13 billion endowment and $600 million in annual grant making. Assembly online began with a beta test version launched on June 22, with the testing phase continuing through August 31, allowing guests to sign up for a 90-day free trial at chq.org/2020-assembly. Following the 90-day trial period, membership will be $3.99 per month.

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop Is Open

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St. between East Fourth and East Fifth streets in Jamestown, announces ladies tops are now half price. Also there’ a very large selection of plus sized ladies clothing. The shop offers clothing for men, women and children, and small household items. The shop is open for sales and receiving Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m; receiving only Tuesday 9 a.m. to noon. If the heat index is too high, the shop will close at 1 p.m. At this time customers must enter on Pine Street and exit to the church parking lot, face covering worn and social distancing observed. Off-street parking is available in the church lot off East Fifth Street.

Moss To Talk About His Career

The third week of Chautauqua Institution’s Interfaith Lecture Series, held at 2 p.m., is themed “Art: A Glimpse into the Divine,” which will explore how art underlies and underlines the commonalities of human existence. Today, David Moss details his career as a self-described transformer of Jewish texts, objects, spaces and souls. The Jerusalem-based artist is co-founder of Kol HaOt, which harnesses the power of the arts for Jewish inspiration and education.

School Panel To Meet Wednesday

RANDOLPH — The Randolph Central School Board will meet Wednesday, July 15, and Wednesday, Aug. 5, in the high school library starting at 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend with appropriate social distancing.
