County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Phone Scam

LITTLE VALLEY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam targeting the elderly. In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office said it has been receiving calls from area residents who have been contacted by an unknown person claiming to be a grandchild or child in trouble with police and in need of money to get out of jail. “We are warning the public this is a phone scam,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Do not give any personal information to anyone over the phone.”

Lakewood Tax Bills To Be Mailed Shortly

LAKEWOOD — Village of Lakewood tax bills will be mailed shortly so that collections can begin Monday. Due to COVID-19, the Lakewood Village Hall remains closed. However, property owners have a variety of options to pay their real property taxes. Payments can be made to the Village of Lakewood, 20 W. Summit St., Lakewood, NY 14750, or deposited in the secure drop box at the front of Village Hall. Payments can also be made by mail to P.O. Box 1475, Buffalo, N.Y. 14240-1475.

JPS District Is Enrolling Kindergartners

The Jamestown Public Schools District is enrolling kindergartners for the 2020-21 school year. The registration is for students who are new to the Jamestown Public Schools District. Students who are currently enrolled in universal pre-kindergarten programs at any Jamestown Public School universal pre-kindergarten site, including Head Start at Bush Elementary School, Holy Family, A Children’s Place, YMCA or YWCA do not need to re-register. Families who enroll students now will receive their child’s teacher assignment over the summer. Library Officials Participate In GiveBigCHQ 2020

LAKEWOOD — Lakewood Memorial Library officials are participating in GiveBigCHQ 2020, an online fundraising campaign sponsored by the Chautauqua Region and Northern Chautauqua community foundations. The campaign makes it easier to pledge support to the library or other participating non-profits. GiveBigCHQ 2020 begins June 1 and ends June 11. While one can make an online donation on any one of those days, library officials are targeting June 1, 5 and 11 as days to make the donation experience more interesting. School Budget Hearing To Be Held Mon.

The Jamestown Public Schools Board will hold a budget hearing regarding the 2020-21 proposed budget on Monday at 6 p.m. The public can access the budget hearing at jpsny.org/budgethearing. There are also directions on the page for community members who would like to participate in the live broadcast budget hearing with questions or comments. The public can also email questions or comments in advance to the BOE@jpsny.org by noon Monday to have them read during the hearing.
