Niagara Falls, City Awarded Virus Funding

The cities of Jamestown and Niagara Falls will receive funding in the form of a grant under the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the funding in a news release Thursday. “I am pleased that two additional municipalities in the Western District of New York will be receiving this emergency supplemental funding,” said U.S. Attorney James Kennedy. “Our first responders on the front lines need resources to continue to respond to the coronavirus.” Jamestown will receive $56,255 while Niagara Falls will receive $142,134 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance. In April, Niagara County and Monroe County were awarded $58,008 and $52,669 respectively from the program. Projects or initiatives which may be funded with the monies include: overtime costs; equipment and supplies (including PPE for law enforcement and medical personnel); hiring; training; travel expenses, particularly related to the distribution of resources to the most impacted areas; and addressing the medical needs of inmates in state, local, and tribal prisons, jails, and detention centers.

Brush Collection To Resume

In Falconer

FALCONER — The village of Falconer will be resuming the normal brush collection schedule on Tuesday. Residents may bring their biodegradable yard waste, with a maximum of 1 cubic yard, to the Falconer DPW highway garage, 1 Coleson Drive, between 4-6 p.m. Permits are required, and social distancing requirements will be observed. Foundation To Host Webinar On Scholarships

On Thursday at 1 p.m., the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation will host a live webinar for high school seniors, college students and their parents to walk them through the Foundation’s scholarship application process. Moderated by Michelle Frederickson, CRCF scholarship officer, the webinar will show students how to complete the Foundation’s general scholarship application, as well as, answer commonly asked questions and offer tips to make their application stand out. In 2019, the Foundation awarded 750 Chautauqua County undergraduate and graduate students more than $1.3 million. In addition to helping pay for tuition costs, CRCF scholarships can be used to cover any expenses related to a student’s education, such as books, meals, transportation, room and board, and lab work to name a few. Currently, the Community Foundation administers more than 300 scholarships to assist undergraduate and graduate students of all ages further their education at two-year and four-year colleges and universities. There is one application for students to complete that matches them to every scholarship they qualify for. To register for the webinar, visit crcfonline.org/scholarships.

Water District To Meet May 14

The North Chautauqua County Water District administrative board will meet Thursday, May 14, at 4 p.m. by Zoom videoconferencing. The public may listen to the meeting by calling 363-3790 and entering conference ID of 17894. The meeting will be recorded and transcribed afterward.
