Hospitals To Receive Funds

Hospital across New York, including several locally, will receive funding as part of the CARES Act, Sen. Chuck Schumer said Monday. The assistance comes in the form of $1.4 billion allocated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to hospital in efforts to battle COVID-19. “Our hospitals and providers have been New York’s heroes in the fight against COVID-19, and these critical dollars will help keep the fight against the virus going strong,” Schumer said in a news release. “New York and its hospitals have been on the frontline of the battle against the virus for over a month now and they are struggling. I will fight with everything I’ve got to get New York’s incredible health care workforce all the federal support they need to beat back this pandemic.” Locally, UPMC Chautauqua is slated to receive $2.08 million; Brooks-TLC (includes Dunkirk and Irving divisions) will receive $1 million; Olean General Hospital will receive $3.486 million; and Westfield Memorial Hospital will receive $126,000.

National Prayer Day Is May 7

The National Day of Prayer for the Jamestown area will be held on Thursday, May 7, at noon in the parking lot of the old Sears Automotive building at the Chautauqua Mall. This drive-in service for prayer will have attendants on hand to assist attendees in parking vehicles in every other space. Speakers and musicians will be stationed within the large bay door of the automotive building. Everyone may listen by tuning their radio to 107.5 FM. In keeping with the recommendation of the national leadership, local pastors and the sheriff will be leading brief prayers for government, media, the military, families, the church, business and schools. This gathering is scheduled to conclude by 1 p.m. The Jamestown area NDP team also recommends two other ways that people from the region may participate in the annual observance by first encouraging everyone to get out (being careful to observe social distancing) during the morning or during the afternoon hours to “prayer-walk” their neighborhood and also to prayer walk the downtown streets of their city or village. People in rural areas may want to “prayer drive” declaring blessings over homes and businesses. From 8-10 p.m. that evening, the team invites everyone who is able to join the National Observance by going to nationaldayofprayer.org and connecting with the livestream event that will be taking place at that time for the entire nation.
