Library Offering Free Books

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Memorial Library it is offering free books to the community while closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. “The library’s front vestibule is always open so that patrons can return books anytime,” library officials said in a news release. “The library is now using this space to stock a cart with a variety of books for all ages. Normally, these books would have been part of the May book sale. However, since the future is so uncertain and since the library received such a large number of donated books this year, the board decided to provide them to the public, free of charge. Added Shannon Taylor, library director: “We are so happy to be able to provide this community service. Books can provide a great escape. Even if you can’t leave your home, you can travel far and wide and experience action, adventure, mystery, and romance by simply reading a book.” The free book cart has something for everyone: adult fiction and non-fiction, young adult and middle school fiction, and story books and picture books for younger children. Some magazines are also available. Items will be replenished as long as possible. The library vestibule is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
