Heavy Snow Is In Forecast

Heavy snow is in the forecast for much of the area beginning later this week. The National Weather Service in Buffalo on Tuesday issued a winter storm watch for Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming and Southern Erie counties from Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon. “Long duration heavy lake effect snow possible,” the weather service said. “Total snow accumulations of a foot or more possible in the most persistent lake snows. Snowfall rates may reach 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.” The greatest snow amounts are expected to focus across the higher terrain of the Chautauqua Ridge, Boston Hills and Wyoming Hills. “Travel could be very difficult to impossible,” the weather service said. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commutes Narrow bands of heavy snow could impact portions of the region. Localized travel problems will be possible.”

Parks Panel Sets Thurs. Meeting

The Chautauqua County Parks Commission will hold its monthly meeting at the Jamestown Airport on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Sip & Sample Event Is To Held

WESTFIELD — The Grape Discovery Center, 8305 W. Main St., Westfield, will host a “Sip & Sample” event on Saturday, March 14, from 1-4 p.m. Tastings of Irish and maple-themed food will be included in the ticket along with tastings from the following businesses: 21 Brix Winery, Johnson Estate Winery, Willow Creek Winery, Woodbury Winery, Big Inlet Brewery and Harrington Maple. To add to the atmospher, Irish fiddle tunes will be provided by the group “Viol Habits.” Presale tickets are $12 and include all tastings and entertainment. Blood Drive Set For March 9

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 9 at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield. For more information, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App at www.redcrossblood.org/blood-donor-app.html, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Dementia Basics Workshop Set

ASHVILLE — A Dementia Basics workshop sponsored by Chautauqua Opportunities Inc.’s Alzheimer’s Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 9 in the Ashville Free Library, Ashville. Respite care is provided free of charge if needed. Reservations are requested by calling 366-3335 or 661-9430, ext. 1236.
