BPU Warns Of Telephone Scam

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities is once again warning the public of a phone scam. The BPU said it was aware of the scam and is advising customers to be aware. “In this case, a caller claims to be from the BPU, saying the customer was overcharged and that the caller is checking to be sure the money was refunded to the customer bank account,” the BPU said in a news release. “In the process of the call, customers are asked for bank account numbers and other personal financial information.” The BPU said it is not making such calls and customers receiving them should hang up on the caller.

Goodell Will Speak At Library

BUSTI — Area residents are invited to Hazeltine Public Library on Friday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. for the annual Library Advocacy Day. State Assemblyman Andrew Goodell will be present to talk with patrons and the general public. “It’s critical our elected officials hear from their constituents about how important the library is to them,” said library director Katie Smith. “Anyone interested in the future of libraries is welcome. Each year, the state debates funding the libraries and we need to make sure our elected officials know how the libraries depend on these funds.” The library is located at 891 Busti Sugargrove Road, Jamestown.

City Rec Baseball Signups Are Set

The Jamestown Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department announced signups for the City Recreation Youth Baseball League that will take place Monday, March 16, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the lobby of City Hall. The program is open to youth ages 7 to 12 years old. Children of 7 years of age will only be allowed to play in the outfield. City residents must pay a $5 registration fee per child. Non-city residents must pay a $15 registration fee per child. All children registering must supply proof of age, and children who played in the program in previous years must still sign up March 16 and pay the registration fee. The age determination date is April 30; whatever a player’s age is on or before April 30 is the player’s league age for the 2020 season. The playing age rule corresponds with that adopted by Babe Ruth Baseball. Anyone with questions is asked to call 483-7523.
