“Souper” Benefit Set For Sunday

A “Souper” benefit to aid Debbie Madl whose home was damaged in a Jan. 12 wind storm will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at War Vets, 3431 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown. For a $5 donation, the fundraiser will include a Chinese auction, 50/50 auction and prizes in addition to all-you-can-eat soup. The public is welcome to attend.

School Board To Hold Meeting

PANAMA — The Panama Central School Board of Education will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the board room. The public is welcome to attend.

Truck Accident Closes Route 5

PORTLAND — The driver of a semi tractor-trailer that left Route 5 in the town of Portland and struck a guardrail and telephone pole was uninjured. The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. The semi was westbound when it left the north side of Route 5. The truck, guardrail and telephone pole were all damaged in the incident. Volunteers with the Portland Fire Department and members of the county HAZMAT Team also responded. The crash caused some diesel fuel to leak from the semi. Route 5 was closed for about five hours so the truck could be removed.

Valentine’s Day Dinner Is Set

REALiFE Church will be hosting a free Valentine’s Day dinner at the Willow Bay Theater, 21 E. Third St., Jamestown, and donations will be taken benefit the Jamestown Prendergast Free Library. The event is open to the community. There will also be a Chinese auction and 50/50 drawing. All proceeds raised will be given directly to the Jamestown Prendergast Library. In keeping with the literary theme, the entire evening will be Jane Austen inspired. There will be dinner, desserts, dancing and a photo booth. Childcare will be provided at the event. Reservations can be made by calling 640-7268.

Documentary To Be Shown Wed.

The county Office for the Aging, Comfort Today is holding a viewing of the Documentary “Love is Listening: Dementia Without Loneliness” along with refreshments on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at 17 Gifford Ave. in West Ellicott.

Workshop To Be Held Feb. 15

The Rev. Dana Horrell will hold a workshop Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10-11:30 a.m. called “Three Ways to Engage Your Community” at Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, 385 S. Main St., Jamestown. The workshop will introduce tools that church leaders can use to reach out to the community. Horrell serves as pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church. City Rec Baseball Meeting Is Set

The Jamestown Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department will hold a meeting for all managers in the City Recreation Baseball League on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m. in the offices of the Parks and Recreation Department on the fourth floor of the city Municipal Building. Those interested in managing a team should plan to attend. A good knowledge of baseball and its rules is mandatory. For more information, call 483-7523.
