Pump Testing Affects Water

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities said Thursday around noon that work and testing on the pumps at the Buffalo Street pump station may cause discolored water on the north side of the city for 12 to 24 hours.

NYS Trooper Facing Charges

A New York State Police trooper has been charged in causing an accident on the New York State Thruway last summer between exits 58 and 59. Stephen C. Barker, 33, is facing charges of second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving. On July 15, at 1:08 p.m., troopers out of the state police barracks in Buffalo responded to a collision involving a trooper’s vehicle on Interstate 90 in the westbound lane in the town of Sheridan. Barker was operating a marked Dodge Charger when he struck the rear of a 2019 Dodge Caravan with five occupants. All occupants of the Dodge Caravan were treated for injuries from minor to severe. Barker is currently suspended without pay. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Collision Reconstruction, Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office and NYSP Professional Standards Bureau assisted in this investigation.

Missing Girl Is Located In City

A 13-year-old girl reported missing since October has been found. In a news release Thursday, the Jamestown Police Department said Gianna L. Coleman was located Wednesday around 1 p.m. at a city residence. The teenager was reported to have run away from home. “She was turned over to her parent and is no longer missing,” JPD said. “A tip was received by a citizen by police reporting her location.” Police said Coleman had been missing since Oct. 21 after running away from home.

Assistance Given By Red Cross

The American Red Cross said its volunteers responded to 45 separate fires across the central and Western New York region beginning Dec. 23. Volunteers provided emergency assistance to 132 people, including funding for temporary housing, food and clothing, and health services as needed. In Chautauqua County, the Red Cross said it assisted families in two apartments following a fire in Conewango Valley another three people after a fire broke out on Greco Lane in Dunkirk.

VFW Aux To Hold Meeting

The John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the ILS Veterans Club, 364 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown. All current members and those men and women eligible for membership are encouraged to attend. The auxiliary would like to plan some fundraisers for the new year.

Auxiliary Will Convene Monday

AMVETS Memorial Post 726 Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the ILS Veterans Club, 364 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown.

Alzheimer’s Chapter To Meet

The Alzheimer’s Association Western New York Chapter will hold a monthly caregiver group at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Jamestown Area Medical Associates, 15 S. Main St., Jamestown. Respite services are available by calling (800) 272-3900.
