Gas Prices Come In Penny Less

Gas prices in Jamestown are a penny cheaper this week at an average of $2.858, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report. Gas prices are as much as 6 cents more expensive for motorists across the mid-Atlantic and northeast states compared to last Monday, except in Vermont and Massachusetts. Pennsylvania ($2.79) ranks among the top 10 most expensive state averages in the country. In the region, motorists can find gas as cheap as $2.35 in Virginia and $2.40 in Delaware. Statewide, New York gas prices are a penny higher this week at $2.69. Regional gasoline stocks decreased by 600,000 barrels, dropping total stock levels to 62.3 million barrels, per Energy Information Administration (EIA) data for week ending Dec. 20. In the week ahead, gas prices are likely to see continued increases.

Water Board To Meet Jan. 9

DUNKIRK — The North Chautauqua County Water District Administrative Board will meet Thursday, Jan. 9, at 4 p.m. at Fireside Manor Restaurant, 5377 W. Lake Road, Dunkirk. The public is welcome to attend.

Folk Dancing Classes Are Set

Scandinavian folk dancing classes will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 904 W. Third St., Jamestown. No experience or partner is necessary to participate. Classes are for those ages 18 years and older. There is no charge.

UPMC Looking For Volunteers

UPMC Chautauqua is looking for volunteers in six areas of the hospital. Information Desk: those who volunteer at the desk help direct visitors and outpatients, deliver flowers and cards and answer questions over the phone; gift shop: volunteers in the gift shop run the cash register and display merchandise; emergency department: the department needs help with keeping patient supplies stocked and escorting patients to tests; outpatient registration: staff in outpatient registration need extra hands to escort patients to their tests; and blood draw lab: needs help escorting patients to other tests. Volunteers usually work three hours a day, once a week. Those interested can apply online at the UPMC Chautauqua website or by calling Liz DeRosa, volunteer coordinator at 664-8224 or email at Derosaea@upmc.edu.

Pre-Licensing Class To Be Held

FREWSBURG — A five-hour pre-licensing driving course will be held at Frewsburg High School on Monday, Jan. 13, from 5-10 p.m. The cost is $25. Those who wish to take part can preregister by calling the guidance office at 569-7026 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Legion Post 1286 To Hold Buffet

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Legion Post 1286 will hold a breakfast buffet on Sunday, Jan. 12, from 8-11 a.m. The cost is $8 per person, with a three-egg omelette for an additional $2. Children 3 and under are free.

Reed’s Staff At City Hall Jan. 9

DUNKIRK — A member of Rep. Tom Reed’s staff will be at Dunkirk City Hall, 342 Central Ave., on Thursday, Jan. 9, from 2-3:30 p.m.
