High Winds Expected In Area

The area is in store for a potentially windy Thanksgiving eve. A high wind warning remains in effect from 7 a.m. today to 1 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service in Buffalo reported. Southwest winds could reach 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. The warning is for Chautauqua and southern Erie counties. “Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines, and lead to scattered power outages,” the weather service said. “Unsecured holiday decorations could also be damaged. Travel could be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive. Secure or shelter loose objects and holiday decorations in a safe location prior to the onset of the strong winds.”
