Sheriff Warns Of Phone Scam

LITTLE VALLEY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about “scam artists” reportedly calling from a Boston, N.Y., phone number. “The scam states that the individual claims to be from Olean General Hospital and they are updating their records,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “They are requesting personal information to include Social Security numbers, bank routing numbers, ect. Do not release any personal information or return any calls to this number. If such a call is received, residents are encouraged to call their local police agency.”

YMCA To Begin Swim Lessons

The Jamestown YMCA Group lessons will begin Monday and run through Nov. 2. YMCA group lessons increase the accessibility and enjoyment of swimming to all ages and skill levels. Lessons for 6-18 month olds will be offered Wednesday evenings from 6-6:30 p.m. or Saturday morning from 9:30-10 a.m. Lessons for 18-36 months will be offered Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7 p.m. or Saturday morning from 9-9:30 a.m. Preschool lessons will run on Monday or Thursday evening 4:30-5 p.m., Wednesday 5:30-6 p.m. or Saturday morning from 10-10:30 a.m. School age lessons will run Monday or Thursday from 5:30-6 p.m., Wednesday 4:30-5 p.m. or Saturday morning from 10:30-11 a.m. Registration is done by age group not ability and can be done online at jamestownymca.org or at the Welcome Center at the Jamestown and Lakewood branches.

St. Luke’s Sets Kayak Mass

St Luke’s Episcopal Church will be holding its final Kayak Mass of the summer Sunday. Participants are invited to join paddlers from 4-6 p.m. for a group excursion which will conclude with a service of Communion on the lake. The September excursion is planned to launch from McRea Point Park in Jamestown. The event is open to anyone, regardless of religious affiliation. Paddlers should bring their own canoes and/or Kayaks and life vests. There will also be a limited number of rentals available through Evergreen Outfitters, who will deliver the kayaks and equipment to the launch site. Anyone interested in renting should contact Evergreen in advance at 763-2266. Participants are asked to contact the church office at 483-6405 for more information.

Historical Society To Take Trip

BEMUS POINT — The Bemus Point Historical Society will take a field trip Sept. 11 as the monthly meeting will be held at the Hotel Lenhart on Lakeside Drive in Bemus Point beginning at 7 p.m. Hosts for the evening will be the Johnston family, third generation hoteliers, who will offer a tour of the hotel and share interesting stories depicting the history of the lakeside gem. The meeting is free and open to potential members. The Bemus Point Historical Society on Alburtus Avenue will also host an open house on Saturday, Sept. 14, in conjunction with the Bemus Point Fall Fest. Lander U.M. To Hold Dinner

The Lander United Methodist Church is hosting a pulled pork dinner on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 4:30-7 p.m. There will also be a silent auction. The price is a donation, and proceeds will benefit the “sending kids to camp” fund.
