Vacation Bible School To Close

KENNEDY — The closing program of Giddup junction Vacation Bible School at Clark’s Corner s Community Church will be Sunday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. The children will give highlights of the week of Vacation Bible School. A church picnic will follow the program. Please bring a dish to share. The church is located at 1 Gospel Lane, Kennedy. Walter Venman is the pastor of the church.

Carlson To Lead Walking Tour

Author and historian Clarence Carlson will lead a walking tour of Jamestown’s industrial past at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24. Carlson will highlight the various manufacturers that made Jamestown a booming city known for its textile mills and furniture factories. The tour will also explore how the Chadakoin River and the railroad connected to form a powerful center of industry in Jamestown. The tour concludes with a stop at the sight of the former American Aristotype Factories, a company that made pre-sensitized photographic paper that revolutionized photography. The paper was made in Jamestown from 1889 to 1925 when all operations were moved to Rochester as part of the Eastman Kodak Company. Those attending should meet at the Fenton History Center. Tours cost $10 for adults and $5 for Fenton History Center members. Children ages 17 and under are free. For more information, call 664-6256.

Doctor To Talk At Therapy Series

Chautauqua Physical and Occupational Therapy will host its next free Try Therapy First Series, “Solutions for Back Pain and Sciatica” led by Dr. Patrick Green. The seminar is from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Riverwalk Center, 15 S. Main St., Jamestown. Seating is limited to the first 20 people to register. SW School Board Meets Tuesday

The Southwestern Central School Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the board room. The public is welcome to attend.

Stockton Road To Be Closed

STOCKTON — County Route 380 in Stockton between James and Waterman roads will be closed to all traffic Wednesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A detour will not be posted.

Citizens Group Meets Thursday

The Citizens for a Better Cassadaga will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cassadaga Library. The upcoming Labor Day Festival will be discussed. All area residents are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Area Library To Host Art Exhibit

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Memorial Library, 12 W. Summit St., Lakewood, has announced an art exhibit titled “Cabin Clutter Creations” that will be displayed through the month of August. The exhibit will present artwork by Terry Lair. Works include nature, animals, landscapes, still life and figurative pieces done in mixed media, acrylic, oil, charcoal, pastel and alcohol inks.
