Church Offering Driving Class

BROCTON — The Fellowship Church, 148 W. Main St., Brocton, is offering an AARP driver safety class Aug. 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants must attend both days and class size is limited. To register for the driver safety driving class, call 224-3280. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers payable by check made out to AARP. For those attending, arrive 15 minutes early the first day to sign in. Bring a pen, driver’s license and AARP membership card. The Fellowship Church is located at the corner of West Main and School streets next to the Brocton School.

Helping Hands Hosting Sale

Community Helping Hands is holding a summer clothing sale on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 2 and 3. This sale is just in time to replace worn out summer clothes or the clothes kids outgrew. Available are shorts, swimsuits, tops, summer weight pants, sun dresses and sandals. Doors open at 10 a.m. both days. The sale will run until 4 p.m. on Friday and until 2 p.m. on Saturday. Large kitchen plastic bags will be provided.

Area Scholarship

Winners Named

The State University at Fredonia recently announced scholarship recipients for the 2019-20 academic year. Scholarships are made possible by private donors and foundations, most of whom made gifts to the Fredonia College Foundation. Among the new scholarship recipients are the following students: Jacob Davison of Cattaraugus, who is majoring in computer science, has received the Arthur R. Maytum Scholarship for $2,000; Bradley Brown of Jamestown, who is majoring in biochemistry, has received the James D. Burdick Memorial Scholarship for $500, Kelly/Kaminski Chemistry Achievement Award for $8,000 and the President’s Award for Excellence for $3,000; Benjamin Russo of Jamestown, who is majoring in history, has received the John J. and Helen B. Mancuso Scholarship for $2,600.

Pantry, Closet Open Saturday

KENNEDY — The Kennedy First United Methodist Church Food Pantry and Children’s Clothing Closet serving Falconer School District residents will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The pantry strives to provide each family with between two and three days of food, but is limited to type depending on the food donations that have been received. The pantry is stocked through individual and group food and monetary donations. The clothing closet provides children’s clothing birth through teen sizes. For more information, contact the church office at 267-2645. The church is located at the corner of Church and Second streets, Kennedy, across from the Town Hall and post office and is handicapped-accessible through the lower side door.

Library To Hold Annual Sale

ASHVILLE — The Ashville Library will hold its annual book bake sale Friday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hardcovers will cost $1 and 50 cents for paperbacks. On Saturday, bags of books may be purchased for $5. The library will be closed for regular business during all days of the sale.
