New Year’s Eve Dinner Is Set

The Lakewood Legion Post 1286 will be hosting a New Year’s Eve prime rib buffet from 5-8 p.m. The meal is with reservations only. Please call 763-1286 to make a reservation, with Dec. 24 as the cutoff. The cost is $25. Music will be provided by Screamin Lou from 8 to midnight. All members and guests are welcome.

Job Corps To Hold Tour Thurs.

Cassadaga Job Corps Academy will host tours and information sessions for interested applicants and their families on Thursday starting at 10 a.m. Cassadaga Job Corps Academy offers no-cost career training in the healthcare, construction and security industries as well as classes to prepare to take the TASC or obtain a high school diploma. Career training programs include carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, certified nurse assistant and security. In addition, the Academy also offers a Job Corps Advanced Training program for LPN, in partnership with BOCES. In order to enroll in Job Corps, applicants must be 16-24 years old and meet income and other guidelines, as well as demonstrate readiness to embark on a rigorous and demanding training program. Services for graduates include job placement assistance and transition money. To reserve a spot on a tour or to inquire about admissions, contact the Cassadaga Job Corps Academy by calling 595-4200 and asking for the admissions office.

Offices Announce Holiday Closings

The three county DMV offices and the County Clerk’s Office in Mayville will close on Monday at 1 p.m. This decision was made after observing historically low business volume on this day and the employee’s desire to have the extra time to plan for family gatherings. The legislature offices located in Room 325 of the Gerace Office Building also will be closed Monday due to lack of available staffing. The offices will also be closed all day Christmas day and will re-open at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Holiday Service Set In Westfield

WESTFIELD — A communitywide Noel Candlelight Christmas Eve service will be held at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., on Monday at 11 p.m. Come welcome in Christmas and celebrate the birth of Jesus. All are welcome to come and witness Christmas through scripture, song, dance and handbells. The event will feature Westfield area youth and adults. The service is organized and directed by Kent and Nannette Knappenberger. In past years, the more than 40 youth and adult member choir participants have represented as many as 13 different churches. The offerings from the evening’s service will go to the Westfield Ministerial Association and will benefit the community.

‘Polar Express’ To Be Shown

“The Polar Express” is coming to the Prendergast Library on Friday, Dec. 27, with a movie viewing, story time and craft activity in the library’s makerspace. The movie will start at 1:30 p.m. with hot chocolate and cookies served. Guests are welcome to wear their pajamas for the cozy event. The library’s makerspace will feature themed activities after the movie from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The event is free, and registration is required by calling the Children’s Desk at 484-7135, ext. 234.
