Library Board To Gather Tuesday

BUSTI — The Hazeltine Public Library Board will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 891 Busti-Sugar Grove Road. The public is welcome to attend. For more information about the library, call 487-1281.

Local Author Publishes Article

Jeffrey Victor, a retired Jamestown Community College sociology professor, published an article in the August-September 2018 issue of Free Inquiry magazine. In “The Social Forces Behind Trump’s War on Science,” Victor offers a sociological analysis of why more Americans reject scientific findings than do Europeans. Victor also suggests psychological reasons why many Americans believe President Donald Trump and why objective measures of truth become a matter of political opinion. Dr. Victor has authored two books and published several articles in professional journals.

Workforce Board Meets Wednesday

BEMUS POINT — A meeting of the Workforce Investment Development Board will be held Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at See-Zurh House/Shaggy’s, 14 Main St., Bemus Point. This meeting is open to the public. Please RSVP to Jody Cheney at jcheney@chautauquaworks.com or 487-5171.

School Board Meeting Moved

The Southwestern Central School Board of Education work session scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday has been moved to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the board room. The public is welcome to attend.

Thule Lodge Meets Thursday

FALCONER — The Thule Lodge will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Falcon’s Nest in Falconer for its monthly meeting. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. The Thule Lodge, now into its 111 year, serves to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities throughout the year. New members are welcome.

Library Hosting Fundraiser Dinner

FLUVANNA — The Fluvanna Free Library will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser featuring spaghetti by Joe Conti on Saturday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Fluvanna Fire Hall, 3536 Fluvanna Ave. The cost is $8 and includes salad, spaghetti and meatballs, bread, beverage and dessert. Children ages five and under eat free. Take-out orders are available. There will be a Chinese auction and a 50/50 giveaway. For more information, call the Fluvanna Free Library at 487-1773. Pre-sale tickets are available at the library at 3532 Fluvanna Ave. and from library board members and various volunteers. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Historical Society Receives Grant

SINCLAIRVILLE — New eave troughs were recently installed on the Valley Historical Society museum in Sinclairville through to a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The new troughs were made by B&L Wholesale and installed by Gary Nichols Construction. The improvement will help keep the museum basement dry. The society has a long history of working with CRCF to keep the museum building, built in 1845, in good condition to continue its mission of preserving the history of the Cassadaga valley.
