Alzheimer Group Meets Thursday

WESTFIELD — The Alzheimer’s Association Western New York Chapter will host “Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s” at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Patterson Library, 40 S. Portage St., Westfield. The workshop is for anyone who would like to know more about what legal and financial issues to consider when faced with the challenge of dementia and how to put plans in place. The session is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged to ensure there are enough materials by calling the chapter office at 800-272-3900.

Classes To Be Held This Month

SINCLAIRVILLE — Chautauqua Opportunities Alzheimer Services will hold several classes for those caring for a loved one diagnosed with memory loss. One set of classes will be held from 6-7 p.m. Sept. 13, 20, 27 and Oct. 4 at the Sinclairville Library, 15 Main St., Sinclairville. To register call 366-3335, ext. 1236 or 661-9430, ext. 1236 between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Caregiver classes are free training designed for those involved in caring for family members or friends with dementia. Caregivers will gain the skills to assess the abilities of the person with dementia, a better understanding of memory loss and dementia and the confidence to set and alter goals of care-giving.

Senior Council Meets Thursday

STOW — The United Senior Council will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the North Harmony Senior Center on Stow Road, Stow. The speaker will be Pat Carr from the Breast Cancer Support Group. All seniors are invited to attend. The United Senior Council works to help senior citizens in all walks of life. For more information, call Theresa at 720-5905.

SWCS Board Gathers Today

The Southwestern Central School Board will meet today at 7 p.m. in the board of education room at the middle school. The meeting is open to the public.

Church To Offer Thrift Shop Sales

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St. between East Fourth and East Fifth streets, Jamestown, will have a storewide $1 sale on items priced at $2 and more on all merchandise in all departments. Store hours are 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Donations are accepted Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon or during regular business hours. Those with large donations should call ahead at 664-1887. Off-street parking is available in the church parking lot off East Fifth Street. The all-volunteer staff includes many from RSVP.

Legislature To Meet Wednesday

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Legislature will hold a special meeting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the legislative chambers in Mayville. The legislature will be voting on the acceptance of funds from the FAA and state Department of Transportation for the “Acquire Snow Removal Equipment Project” at the Chautauqua County-Jamestown Airport.

Oak Street To Close In Village

LAKEWOOD — Oak Street, between Mapleview and West Fairmount avenues, will be closed to traffic beginning today to allow Lakewood DPW crews to install new stormwater pipes.
