West Side Women To Meet

The West Side Women’s Club of Jamestown met in April at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Kim Carlson from A Fresh Start spoke on the Oxford Houses being established in the area, which are family houses for groups of individuals recovering from addiction. In these homes, the residents are able to rent and live together in a supportive environment. The Alex House is one such house created in memory of Carlson’s son, Alex Foulk. Carlson accepted a donation from the women’s club for A Fresh Start at this meeting. The May West Side Women’s Club meeting will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Bethel Lutheran Church, with Harry Snelling, Jamestown police chief, as speaker.

Parade Set

For Sunday

GERRY — The Gerry Memorial Day Parade will be held Sunday. Line-up begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Gerry Fire Hall with the parade starting at 2 p.m. To participate or for more information, call Cherin Mehs at 985-4257.

To Meet Tonight

The Southwestern Central School Board will host a work session meeting on today at 7 p.m. in board of education room. The meeting is open to the public.

Outdoor Club To Ride Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will ride bikes 18 miles on the paved bike trail in Oil Creek State Park. Participants will meet at Petroleum Center in the park at 10 a.m. For more information call Dennis Anderson in Jamestown at 969-9772.

Catt. Co. Library Board To Meet

The Cattaraugus County Free Library’s next board meeting will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. A patron internet policy will be discussed at the meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

Busti Clerk’s Office To Close

The Busti Town Clerk’s Office, 125 Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood, will be closing at 3 p.m. on Thursday due to a board of assesment review.

Thule Lodge Plans Service

FALCONER — The Thule Lodge, the Swedish organization for the area, will hold its annual memorial service on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Falcon’s Nest, 2001 E. Main St., Falconer. During the service, members of the lodge who passed away in the last year will be remembered. Family members are invited to attend. Chaplain Diane Shaw, assisted by vice chairman Susan W. Sipos, will place carnations on the altar in memory. Following the service, refreshments will be provided and a time for fellowship. The Thule Lodge is now into its 111th year in the Jamestown area, was organized to help the Swedish immigrants settle in the U.S. with housing, employment and schooling. Today, the lodge serves to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities. New members are welcome.

Thrift Shop To Hold Store Sale

In observance of Memorial Day, St. Luke’s Thrift Shop is having a storewide sale with half-off prices on clothing in all departments. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
