Busti Mill To Host Demonstration

BUSTI — The Busti Mill will hold a grinding demonstration day and open house Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Grinding demonstrations are held monthly through the summer on the third Sundays of each month. The mill was completed to working status and dedicated June 9, 2013, after a 40 year-restoration. The Busti Historical Society will hold a business meeting Wednesday, Aug. 2, at the adjacent museum building. At the July meeting an advertising budget was set for the Sept. 24 Apple Festival, which will be the 43nd annual festival. Reports were made on progress restoring the interior of the miller house and other projects.

Cassadaga Lake Tours Monday

CASSADAGA — Kayak, canoe or paddle board the Cassadaga Lakes on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Those attending should meet at the DEC Launch on Dale Drive for a tour of Cassadaga Lakes. Those who need a rental can call Evergreen Outfitters at 763-2266. The tour is sponsored by the Citizens for a Better Cassadaga.

Support Group Meets Thursday

The Alzheimer’s Association monthly caregiver support group will meet Thursday, July 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Fluvanna Community Church on Fluvanna Avenue Extension. The group is for anyone 18 years or older who is caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia related diagnoses. Call 800-272-3900 for more information or are attending the support group meeting for the first time.

Daily Bible Schools Offered

The Salvation Army, 83 South Main St., will hold daily vacation Bible school from 6-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 21, for children between the ages of 5 and 12. The theme is: “Everest, Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power.” For reservations, call 664-4108.

Golden Agers

To Meet Tuesday

Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers to meet at the Lakewood American Post1286 on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. for a picnic. Members need to bring a dish to pass and provide their own table service. Reservations are needed for the chicken BBQ. The cost is $6 to be paid at that time.

JHS Class Picnic Planned Aug. 18

The Jamestown High School Class of 1963 will hold a class picnic from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Viking Lake Park pavilion. Reservations can be made at classof1963jhs.com or calling Jackie Jackson at 354-2106 by Aug. 1. Plans are also being made for the class’ 55th reunion on Aug. 17-18, 2018.

Historical Society Meets Tuesday

BLOCKVILLE — The Harmony Historical Society will meet on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Carpenter Hall on the society’s campus in Blockville. The program, “The History of Green Brothers Lumber” will be presented by Deborah Green Field and Pam Brown. Field’s family owned and operated the Blockville landmark for many years. Green Brothers Lumber artifacts and information from the historical society’s collection will be on display. The tureen dinner begins at 6 p.m. Those attending should bring a dish to pass.
