On Saturday, the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will host the sixth annual Invasive Species Pull. This year’s pull will target garlic mustard and other invasive species at the Loomis Goose Creek Wetland Preserve on Route 394 in Ashville. Volunteers are invited to meet at the preserve at 9:30 a.m. Becky Nystrom, CWC board director and JCC biology professor, will lead the event. In addition, the Chautauqua County Master Gardeners will be removing invasive species at the Old Fluvanna Road entrance to the CWC Chautauqua Lake Outlet Greenway Preserve. The event is anticipated to run two hours and is well-suited for groups. Registration is requested. Please email info@chautauquawatershed.org or call 664-2166 to register. Be sure to wear waterproof work boots and gardening gloves and, if possible, bring pruning shears, shovels, pickaxes, hand saws and heavy-duty garbage bags.

Auxiliary Sets Saturday Banquet

The Marco Polo Auxiliary will meet for a mother/daughter banquet on Saturday, hosted by Mary Racitano, Rita Ellis and Sylvia Bonaventura. Members will be called for the menu, place and time. Dues must also be paid before Saturday. The next meeting will be on May 7. Norma Gagliano, Lois Butcher and Mickey Pappalardo will be hostesses. Ellis hosted the April 2 meeting. Racitano led in prayer and a flag salute. Reports by Frances Lunetta, secretary, and Dorothy Galati, treasurer, were approved as read. Celebrating birthdays were Denise Rutkowski and Linda Conti. Discussion was on sending Easter baskets to St. James and Sacred Heart churches and Holy Apostles Parish and baking by members for future spaghetti dinners in the clubhouse. It was voted on to eliminate meetings in March due to weather and to hold a summer picnic instead.
