Salamanca Board To Meet Tuesday

Blood Drive Set For Wednesday

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga Fire Department Auxiliary will host Community Blood Drive on Wednesday at the Mill Street Community Building from 3-6 p.m. The auxiliary will award a $25 gas card to a local winner. All donors will also be entered into a drawing for a $250 gas card awarded by the Community Blood Drive during the month of July.

Chicken Barbecue Set For Thursday

FINDLEY LAKE – The Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Department will host a craft show and chicken barbecue on Thursday at the fire hall on Main Street, Findley Lake. Planning Board To Meet Wednesday

The Chautauqua County Department of Planning and Economic Development will hold a meeting of the Chautauqua County Land Bank Corporation on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the CCIDA Board Room, 200 Harrison St., Jamestown. TOPS Weigh-In Set For Wednesday

Thirty-one TOPS 721 Jamestown members weighed in recently. Best losers were Donna Borst, TOPS, who also received free dues and Joanne Anderson, KOPS. Set For July 6

The Jamestown High School Class of 1978 35th class reunion will be held on July 6 at the Gateway Station. Events will include an “ice breaker” on Friday, a tour of Jamestown High School and the establishment of a memorial scholarship fund in honor of classmates who have died. Dig Into Reading Begins Tuesday

Gay Marriage A Topic For Forum

“The Supreme Court, Homosexuality and Marriage: Refining, Redefining or Undoing America” is the topic of the forum on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the James Pendergast Library. Given the recent rulings by the highest court of the land, the decision further changes the landscape of marriage in America. Some call it a win for diversity while others say it is a descent into indecency. Where does the ruling lead the nation next? Pastors Jeff Short and Mel McGinnis will lead the forum providing perspective on the matter to help people sort through the issues and think clearly about the subject. Discussion will follow the presentation by both pastors and the public is invited to come. The forum is not endorsed by the library.

Begins Tuesday

Community Helping Hands will hold a patriotic bag sale Tuesday through July 9 for $1 per bag, with new items added every day. Thrift Store Offers Many Items

The Community Outreach Center Thrift Store, located in the third floor of the First Lutheran Church, corner of Chandler and Center streets, offers a variety of used men’s, women’s and children’s clothes, household goods and more. The Ashville Free Library is now accepting new and used books, in good condition, DVDs, and audio books for the annual book sale to be held Aug. 2-3. Bible School Begins Monday

STOCKTON – The Stockton Community Church, 4554 W. Railroad Ave., will host a vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday-Friday for pre-kindergarten children, age 4 through grade school children who have completed grade 6. TEA Party Group To Meet Tuesday

LAKEWOOD – Southern Tier TEA Party Patriots will hold its monthly general meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lakewood American Legion, 174 Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood. Featured speaker will be Kelly Cirten of People Against the NDAA, a citizen group against the National Defense Authorization Act. The NDAA authorizes indefinite military detention, without charge or trial, of any person, including American Citizens. The “Law of War” is applied to U.S. soil, making the United States legally a battlefield. Updates also will be presented on the FairTax and Flat Tax, ObamaCare and Common Core. ELLINGTON – The Farman Free Library, Ellington, will host an open house from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday. Ross Grange

To Meet Monday

FALCONER – Michele Fairbanks, an EMT/paramedic from Gerry Fire Department, shared items of safety with Ross Grange members at their June 10 meeting. She urged folks to stay put after a fall in case of a broken bone and to get help. A lifeline device is helpful to many. Everyone should have a list of medications and health care information, along with a non-hospital “Do Not Resuscitate” form, if needed, where volunteers can gain access to them. She answered many questions from the group. It was noted June is National Safety Month. Members voted a donation to Gerry Fire Department in appreciation of Fairbanks’ presentation. Correspondence included thank-yous from Makayla Keefe, Gordon and Mary Carlberg, and an invitation to participate in the Falconer Farmers’ Market. Bob Goodwin thanked members for helping with the float for Memorial Day parades. Pictures of Grange activities were on display. The next meeting will be Monday at the Falcon’s Nest Banquet Hall.

Fracking Forum Set In Randolph

RANDOLPH – The public is invited to a free program entitled: Fracking 101: Separating Fracking Facts from Fracking Fiction. War Vets To Open Pool Today

The War Vets Recreation Club, 3431 Fluvanna Road, will open their outdoor swimming pool today. Pool memberships are open to both members and non-members of the War Vet’s. Regular daily swimming will continue each day from 1-6 p.m. The closing hours may be extended for private family celebration events with special arrangements and a nominal fee to cover lifeguard expenses. Weed Pull Set For Saturday

KIANTONE – Due to recent heavy rain, volunteers should be prepared to wade in knee-deep water Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Audubon’s Big Pond during a search for aquatic invasive plants. To Speak

Local resident and Vietnam veteran Terry Schermerhorn will relate the story of how Gen. Douglas MacArthur made his dramatic escape from the Japanese-held Philippine Islands during the early days of World War II. The speaker will make comparisons between the promise of MacArthur – “I shall return” – and the promise of Christ – “I will come again.” All are welcome to this patriotic service honoring the nation’s heroes. Hospital Board Reveals Ornament

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board has unveiled its newest ornament in the continuing Westfield-related porcelain ornament collection. This is the seventh in the series and features the “Welcome To Historic Westfield” marker. The back of the ornament highlights some of Westfield’s unique history. These items are available as hanging ornaments, magnets and thimbles. All proceeds support WMH Auxiliary’s ongoing projects. Outdoor Club

To Meet Today

The Allegheny Outdoor Club will ride bikes from East Street in Warren to the Kinzua Dam and back,. Lakewood Church To Host Concert

LAKEWOOD – Tim Zimmerman and the King’s Brass will be appearing in concert at Lakewood Baptist Church, 150 Erie St., in Lakewood on Thursday at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken. Tim Zimmerman and The King’s Brass present hymn classics with a contemporary flair. The King’s Brass features three trumpets, three trombones, a tuba, percussion and keyboards. These instruments blend together to create a time of innovative worship. This year the group will be celebrating their 35th anniversary tour. As a result, The King’s Brass will be introducing their 16th recording titled “The Best of Tim Zimmerman and The King’s Brass – The First 35 Years.” This CD, released on the Summit Records label (summitrecords.com), features the groups favorites from their past CD releases as well as three new bonus selections.

Blood Drives Begin Thursday

Outdoor Club To Hike Thursday

On Thursday, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike 6 miles on the Forest Cathedral trails in Cook’s Forest. This will be a moderately strenuous hike. The hike will also lead hikers through the largest stand of old growth white pine and hemlock in Pennsylvania. Atheist Forum Set For Tuesday

Veritas (Truth) First will hold a public forum on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. the Prendergast Library. Veritas First will respond to the emerging New Atheism advanced by Richard Dawkins, the late Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris. The forum will provide a response from a Christian worldview perspective to this new form of atheism by utilizing clips from Christian apologists Ravi Zacharias and William Craig Lane. They will show the reasonable and logically sound basis for the existence of God and the truth of Scripture. Pastors Jeff Short and Mel McGinnis will offer an apologetic for the faith of Christianity and point out the intellectual weaknesses of atheism. The forum will address issue related to the recent natural disaster in Moore, Okla.: if God is all-powerful, why did He allow the tornado? Swim Lessons Begin Tuesday
