Harrison Helps Jayhawks Split Doubleheader Against Corning

CORNING — The Jamestown Community College baseball team rode a big third inning and a strong pitching performance by Evan Harrison to edge Corning CC, 6-5, and earn a split of their NJCAA Region 3 Division III doubleheader on Thursday.

Harrison struck out five and walked two, and was the beneficiary of a six-run third inning as the Jayhawks bounced back from an 8-4 setback in the first game.

Highlighting the six-run outburst for Jamestown CC were a two-run double by Roberto Aracena and a three-run home run by Caleb Caldwell. Caldwell and Spencer TeWinkle both finished with two hits as the Jayhawks improved to 7-5.

“Evan Harrison has pitched tremendously the last two outings,” Jamestown CC coach Matt Cummings said. “Today, he was a huge lift, especially after dropping Game One. We have all the confidence in the world when he takes the hill for us.”

In the opener, the Jayhawks fell behind, 6-1, after two innings and couldn’t mount a comeback.

German Nolasco, Aracena (double), Brady Blair, Jake Brown and TeWinkle all had two hits for the Jayhawks. Nolasco, Aracena and Blair also drove in a run.

Joe Horn was the winning pitcher for Corning CC.

The Jayhawks return to action Saturday at Erie CC.
