Falconer Sweeps Twin Bill From Pine Valley
FALCONER — Emily Melquist’s RBI single in the top of the sixth inning scored the go-ahead run that lifted Falconer to a 12-10 victory over Pine Valley and a sweep of a nonleague softball doubleheader on Saturday.
Melquist also belted a home run and finished with four RBIs in the second game, but she had plenty of offensive help. Macy Youngberg (two triples) had three hits and two RBIs; Raven Young added two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs; and Alex Rivera added a triple and an RBI.
Malori Waag had two doubles and drove in a run; Haley Campbell added a double and two RBIs; and Payton Swanson had two hits and drove in two runs for Pine Valley.
In the first game, Ashley Pierce had two hits and Courtnee Peterson drove in a pair of runs as the Lady Golden Falcons held on for a 9-8 victory. Rivera had a triple and drove in a run and Peterson added a single for the winners (6-1).
Waag had a double and drove in three runs; Sage Haskins had single and drove in two runs; and Lyric Westlund had two hits, including a double, for Pine Valley.
All the runs in the opener were scored in the first two innings.
