Dunkirk Girls Clinch Trip To State Meet

CHEEKTOWAGA — Dunkirk claimed the Section VI Girls Bowling Small School title on Wednesday, beating second-place Maryvale by 132 pins at Airport Lanes.

The Marauders finished with a linescore of 828-835-967-959-922-1,049, paced by Olivia Corbett’s 190-189-229-192-172-245-1,217. Mariah Glowniak followed Corbett with a 179-144-211-179-186-223-1,122 while Hannah Ellman rolled a 167-182-182-227-159-179-1,096. Rachel Glowniak a 142-173-166-183-248-169-1,081 while Makayla Pasierb spilled a 150-147-179-178-157-233-1,044 for the Marauders, who were crowned the Class C champions.

Forestville won the Class D title with a third-place Small School showing of 890-960-892-869-925-810-5,346. Tristian Olsen led the Hornets with a 164-221-162-181-226-182-1,136 while Lily VanArsdale had a 190-179-182-171-215-149-1,086 and Dakota VanArsdale rolled a 168-230-194-172-171-148-1,083. Sydney Frost cracked a 194-152-207-179-168-149-1,049 and Ashley Forbes had a 174-178-147-166-145-182-992.

Falconer was second in Class D and fifth among Small Schools with a 890-836-844-793-807-841-5,011. Elizabeth Wallace led the Golden Falcons with a 188-193-174-189-169-183-1,096, Hannah Cross had a 211-178-193-149-132-168-1,031, Beth Brown rolled a 162-178-181-165-194-145-1,025, Amelia Sprague had a 181-163-146-148-168-185-991 and Rachel Himes spun an 868 set.

Frewsburg was fourth in Class D and 10th among Small Schools with a 887-717-754-755-729-775-4,617 led by Katelyn Bean’s 178-184-163-169-166-145-1,005 and Bryanna Warner’s 153-158-176-155-136-223-1,001. Samantha Smith added an 899 series, Bridget Ritter an 896 series and Jocelyn Estabrook an 816 series.

Fredonia was ninth in Class C and 13th among Small Schools with a 760-821-720-747-733-593-4,374 led by Gillian Reed’s 165-184-164-184-181-137-1,015. Savannah Salim had a 208-168-129-150-145-153-953 while Allie Cook chipped in an 847 series and Elizabeth Bumpus had a 779 series.

Salamanca was fifth in Class D and 14th among Small Schools with a 731-677-714-745-682-729-4,278. Maeghan Collins led the Warriors with a 169-121-177-146-153-148-914 while Emma Fiske added an 873 series, Nora Warrior and 859 series and Liz Stewart an 844 series.

Silver Creek was sixth in Class D and 15th among Small Schools with a 793-723-719-622-729-676-4,262. McKenna Steklasa led the Black Knights with a 172-146-191-144-198-130-981 while Andrea Olsen added a 155-156-162-128-180-141-922 and Laneya Olsen had a 192-176-140-150-139-109-906.

Randolph was seventh in Class D and 18th among Small Schools with a 587-706-736-648-663-609-3,949. Harley Bruyere led the Cardinals with an 869 set and Alexa Gozdalski had an 882 set.

In Large School competition, Jamestown was 17th overall and 10th in Class A with a 794-643-748-733-818-769-4,505. Emily Ryberg led the Red Raiders with a 195-124-160-123-205-169-976 and Kali Mason had a 138-154-170-156-159-137-914. Connie Rushforth turned in an 895 series, Alexis Cowen an 865 and Abbie Derby an 855.

Individually, Clarence’s Sarah D’Angelo took first place with a 1,301 series followed by Frontier’s Makenzie Yesis (1,293), Orchard Park’s Paige Bartosz (1,275), Tonawanda’s Melissa Large (1,274), Orchard Park’s Sarah Radt (1,248), Depew’s Rachel Wagner (1,244), Alden’s Sydney Skimmer (1,243), Allegany-Limestone’s (1,224), Corbett and West Seneca’s Kendyll Jaskier (1,216).

Unattached local bowlers included Gowanda’s Tatum Stitzel (1,083), Clymer/Sherman’s Megan VanValkenburg (996), Southwestern’s Morgan Wilson (993), Dunkirk’s Whitney Hice (966) and Dunkirk’s Summer Clark (924).

Dunkirk will now advance to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Bowling Championships on Sunday, March 10 at AMF Strike ‘N’ Spare Lanes in Syracuse.
