Zavon Overton’s Big Fourth Quarter Lifts Clymer Past PV

FREDONIA — Zavon Overton had 14 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter as Clymer overcame an eight-point deficit to beat Pine Valley, 63-57, in nonleague action at SUNY Fredonia on Saturday.

The Panthers (3-7, 2-1 CCAA Division 2 East) led, 42-34, after three quarters, but Overton helped the Pirates (6-4, 3-1 CCAA Division 2 West) erase the margin with three 3-pointers in the final eight minutes.

Clymer led 28-22 at halftime, but Anthony Yaskow and Ryan Snyder each had 5 points in a 20-6 third quarter for Pine Valley.

Overton had six steals to go along with his team-high total in points while Alex Dunnewold had eight rebounds. Lucas Willink chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Lucas Beckerink had 10 points and four assists.

Christian Ortiz led the Panthers with 19 points, 11 rebounds and three steals; Brady Andrews had 13 points and eight rebounds; and Makiah Snyder had eight rebounds and three steals.

FREDONIA — Sherman knocked off Forestville, 51-31, at SUNY Fredonia.

Mike Beatman had 11 points for Sherman (4-8).

Forestville (5-6) was led by Gavin Christian’s 11 points, while Luke Szumigala had 9.

FREDONIA — Kate Honey scored 18 points and Ashley Covey scored 13 points and had four steals to lead Clymer to a 49-27 nonleague girls basketball victory over Pine Valley at SUNY Fredonia on Saturday.

Alexis Wassink added six rebounds and four steals, Erin Brumagin was credited with six boards, and Hannah King chipped in four steals for the Lady Pirates (3-8), who snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Pine Valley (2-8) was led by Payton Swanson, who had 8 points.

SHERMAN BREEZES

FREDONIA — The Sherman Lady Wildcats kicked off the quadruple-header of nonleague action at SUNY Fredonia with a 44-18 win over the Forestville Lady Hornets.

Sherman (5-5) had three 3-pointers in the first half, en route to a 28-3 lead at the half. The Lady Wildcats coasted to the win the rest of the way.

Carrie Sands led the way with a game-high 16 points for Sherman; Sands, Myers and Hayes all had four assists; Myers had 10 points and five steals, while Hayes had four points.

Phoebe Kingsfield led Forestville (2-8) with 11 points to go along with six rebounds. Chloe Barrett led the Lady Hornets with seven rebounds.
